šŸ“ Japan Google MapsĀ Ā
(note: we did not go to all of these places but these were all places that were recommended to us)

Must hits:
It’s impossible to pick a favorite child but let’s say you can only pick one of each category to hit. These are the things I would say you simply cannot pass on:
šŸ‘€: Kiyomizu-dera.Ā
A really gorgeous shrine in Kyoto but the most memorable part was getting there. If you go first thing in the morning, you’ll experience a peaceful walk through Gion. The route up to the shrine weaves you through streets filled with people and little shops. Tip: stop at a shop to get chopsticks engraved as a souvenir and pick it up on your way back down.
šŸµ: Ujicha Kigetsudō.
I actually don’t think we made it to any cocktail bars in Kyoto (though I’ve heard Bee’s Knees is incredible) but we made an early morning stop at this matcha spot. It’s an old couple grinding and measuring out matcha all day. Note: they do not serve matcha, so this is a spot to buy some to take home.
ā˜•ļø: Vermillion.
This is a little cafe is tucked away at the end of the Fushimi Inari Taisha (a shrine with those famous red arches I’m sure you’ve seen). In the back is a serene dream, and outdoor with a ton of outdoor searing overlook a river and forest. Perfect end to a long walk. We could have spent hours here.
šŸ½ļø: Tai Sushi.
I won’t lie, this was a Tiktok find. But it ended up being one of the most memorable meals! A tiny spot (seats maybe 12 people?) with a set sushi menu. The owner/chef is absolutely wonderful and you can tell how much he cares about what he does. The line get absolutely insane and they don’t take res so I recommend arriving a bit before open to wait.
šŸ›ļø: Tsutaya Books.
If my family hadn’t dragged me out of here, I could have spent many more hours wandering through this store (I guess 2 hours was their limit….). Books, stationery, decor, perfume, snack, art - they have it all in here.
